About Pest Control in Minnesota

An unusually high diversity of mosquito species calls Minnesota home, and it traces straight back to the state's more than 10,000 lakes and extensive wetlands; University of Minnesota entomologists have documented several dozen species statewide, a variety directly tied to how much standing water the state holds. That abundance is exactly why mosquito treatment stays a real summer request for pest control companies working lakeshore and wooded properties.

Brutal winters have their own flip side every fall: boxelder bugs, multicolored Asian lady beetles, and cluster flies all hunt for cracks around siding, window frames, and attic vents to spend the cold months indoors, then show up again by the hundreds on a sunny late-winter day trying to find their way back out. That timing is predictable enough year to year that University of Minnesota Extension publishes seasonal guidance for managing both problems.

Statutes 18B.32 puts structural pest control licensing in Minnesota under the Department of Agriculture: individual applicators need a Structural Pest Control Applicator license, earned by passing the Core (Category A) exam plus a Journeyman or Master exam tier, and reaching Master status specifically takes two years of prior licensed Journeyman experience first. Companies need their own separate Structural Pest Control Company license on top of that, with at least one licensed commercial applicator on staff, MDA registration, and liability coverage of at least $100,000 bodily injury and $10,000 property damage per occurrence, or an equivalent bond, or $50,000 in net assets instead.

Wildlife related services work a little differently here too. Several of the services on this site, including Bat Removal, Raccoon Removal, Squirrel Removal, Snake Removal, Pigeon & Bird Control, and Wildlife Removal, fall outside this pesticide-focused license entirely: the Minnesota DNR governs bat exclusion instead, legally restricted during the roughly mid-May through early-August maternity season, and lets landowners remove damage-causing squirrels or raccoons under specific conditions without a separate license at all, a genuinely different regulatory track than the MDA's insect and general pest licensing.

None of this is something Pure Home Pest verifies on a provider's behalf, so if licensing matters to you, ask directly before booking. Call (844) 924-1337 and we'll help connect you with a provider covering your part of Minnesota.

Is Pure Home Pest a pest control company in Minnesota?

No. Pure Home Pest is a referral and connection service for Minnesota callers. We help find independent provider options, but we do not perform inspections, treatments, trapping, or removal.
