Pure Home Pest connects Southington homeowners with independent providers, serving Apple Valley, where the harvest festival outdraws the town three to one.
Call (844) 924-1337Southington is Apple Valley. The orchards on its hillsides earned the town that name long before anyone made it official, and in 1969 the town did exactly that with its first Apple Harvest Festival: a parade an hour and a half long, 130 floats, and an estimated 20,000 spectators in a town of about 29,000 residents. The festival never shrank. It now runs six days across two weekends every fall on the town green, draws over 100,000 people, and ranks among the largest and longest running festivals in the Northeast, with a reputation built substantially on its apple fritters. The orchards behind the name are still working land: Rogers Orchards has farmed here since 1809 and grows twenty varieties of apples across 275 acres. Southington itself was incorporated out of Farmington in 1779, and its housing now spans everything from farmhouse era construction to modern subdivisions. That mix, working orchard land at the edges and centuries of building styles in between, gives pest pressure here a genuinely agricultural character that most Connecticut suburbs lost generations ago.
Southington's working orchard acreage sits close enough to its neighborhoods that residents have a direct stake in who applies pesticides and how, and Connecticut's rules are specific about exactly that. Connecticut regulates pesticide applicators through the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Pesticide Management Program under Connecticut General Statutes Chapter 441, section 22a-54. Commercial applicators fall into two classes: supervisory, who decide whether pesticides are used and how, and may purchase restricted use products from a registered dealer, and operational, who apply pesticides commercially but cannot purchase restricted use products or go into business independently. Every company must have a certified supervisory applicator either on site or providing specific written instructions, and an operator may not perform any treatment the instructions do not cover without first getting new ones. Applicants must be at least 18. A separate arborist license is required for tree care work. Call (844) 924-1337 and we can point you toward a provider who covers Southington.
