Pure Home Pest connects Concord homeowners with independent providers, serving the real Todos Santos, rebuilt after the 1868 Hayward earthquake.
Call (844) 924-1337Concord's history starts with a rebuild, not a founding story in the usual sense. When the 1868 Hayward earthquake damaged the nearby town of Pacheco, farmer Salvio Pacheco laid out a new townsite on his land in 1869 and named it Todos Santos, Spanish for All Saints. The name did not last long: within that same year, the growing settlement was renamed Concord, meaning harmony, and that name has stuck for more than a century and a half since. The city grew up around that original Todos Santos town plan, and Mount Diablo Union High School, founded in 1901 just a few decades after the renaming, has operated continuously ever since, making it California's longest continually operating high school. That layering, an 1869 town plan at the center, a school building present since 1901, and decades of later suburban growth spreading out from both, gives Concord a genuine mix of building ages inside one set of city limits, sitting inland in the Diablo Valley at the base of Mount Diablo rather than along the coast, which shapes pest pressure differently than it would in a city built in a single era or a single climate zone.
Concord's mix of a nineteenth century town core and generations of later suburban development means a pest control provider here has to be licensed across the state's full structure, not just for one type of job. California regulates structural pest control through the Structural Pest Control Board, a division of the Department of Consumer Affairs, and requires a license for essentially all pest control performed for hire. The state issues three separate branch licenses: Branch 1 for fumigation, Branch 2 for general household pest and rodent control, and Branch 3 for termite and other wood destroying pest control, including structural repairs. Each branch has its own experience and examination requirements, and applicants must pass a board approved exam with at least a 70% score. Businesses must separately hold an operator license, and field representatives who perform inspections need their own licensing tier. Wildlife trapping is regulated by a different agency entirely: the Department of Fish and Wildlife requires its own trapping license for pest control technicians removing furbearing or nongame mammals like raccoons or squirrels, though technicians already licensed by the Structural Pest Control Board are exempt from that separate license specifically when trapping mice, rats, voles, moles, or gophers.
